the pace active campaign engine platform

PACE is a smart platform for delivering rich visual campaigns at every touch point in the handset

PACE is a white-label on-device micro campaign delivery and display engine — an application that is installed on a mobile phone handset whose job it is to manage and display rich graphical campaigns such as advertisements to the user

the PACE client

PACE is an application that is installed onto a smartphone handset.

Once installed, PACE works by downloading campaigns from the network and storing them on the handset. Each campaign definition can include rules that describe when, how and where the campaigns are displayed.

Since the system supports many independent campaigns from different sources, campaign rules assign display priorities to items. The item with the highest display priority is shown first, then the next highest, etc., until all of the items in the display carousel have been shown to the user.

At its core, PACE is an efficient rules engine that mediates campaign display to the user.

Because campaigns can subscribe and react to events on the handset, we call the system the Active Campaign Engine.

Active Campaigns

‘Active’ campaigns include rules that monitor system events including calls, SMS, network events and more — allowing rich, multi-layered contextual campaigns to be created.

PACE runs as a background process on the handset. It starts when the handset boots and also installs itself as the handset screensaver. It is designed to present graphically rich campaigns with associated micro apps to the user in a visually appealing but unintrusive manner.

campaigns can display a call to action via:

  1. The handset Screensaver.
  2. The handset Home Screen (idle screen).
  3. On top of any running application, via an Overlay view.
  4. As a modal Popup view.

Users can interact with campaigns by either tapping the campaign, or pressing a campaign ‘hot-key’. This action causes a mini-application called a ‘Focused view’ to be shown.

These views allow campaign designers to create rich user interfaces that are bound to particular campaigns.

many independent campaigns

PACE supports multiple independent collections of campaigns called campaign channels.

Channels are downloaded from the web and cached on the handset. Channel metadata describes validity dates, an update schedule as well as where updates can be downloaded from.

technical benefits

The PACE client is small, smart and efficient. Using multiple campaign channels that can be managed independently, that use a common rules engine, with simple UI targeting leads to unrivalled flexibility in mobile advertising, mobile marketing and self-care scenarios.
